Yotam Ottolenghi started his cooking career as a pastry chef in a Michelin-starred restaurant in Knightsbridge right after his first cooking class…quite brilliant! He then worked in different restaurants in the Chelsea/Kensington, before finally opening his own high-end delicatessen with partners in Notting Hill 15 years later. There are now four delis across London, and a formal restaurant NOPI, reviewed by our team as a Plus restaurant.
But back to the delis and their cakes… Ottolenghi’s treats look so good against the clean, simple, white setting, which really highlights the beautiful colours of the cakes, making it almost impossible to order one. The passionfruit tart with a caramelised meringue has this perfect balance between sweetness and sharpness; the chocolate fondant will fulfill your chocolate rush for a week and if you feel nostalgic about your grandmother’s homemade pastry, try one of their fruit tarts; almond & apricot, rhubarb, plum, pistachio & apple are ideas of what you might find. If you are after a sweet note to complement your tea, the lemon & mascarpone cake or the nutty tea cake with a nice chocolate glazing are meant for you.
Four locations across London in Islington, Notting Hill, Belgravia and Kensington. Full details on www.ottolenghi.co.uk
