If you love traditional, rustic Italian food, then there’s a place in Highbury which you can’t miss – and while everyone has their favourite Italian style of cooking, I think the Sardinian food served here is the best. Flavour and simplicity is the philosophy of this little place run by the larger than life chef Marcello. On top of the food, the atmosphere is fantastic, and it will whisk you away to Sardegna in seconds.
On the food side, there’s no point in beating around the bush (chef certainly doesn’t!). Italian food is all about quality products; fresh homemade pasta, vibrant vegetables and fabulous, rich sauces. This is exactly what Little Sargena is about.
Take an antipasti platter to kick things off, and you’ll be given slices of meat that you’d only dream about buying at the shops. It also comes with some delicate Italian sheep cheese.
As for the mains, the tagliatelle with truffle is a special treat if it’s on the blackboard. Infused oil flavours the pasta and a shower of truffle shavings dresses the dish. The pumpkin, n’duja and walnut ravioli are something (I’d wager) that you won’t find in many place. Spicy and sweet with a nutty crunch, this creative combination is just to die for. If you don’t fancy a traditional pasta dish, then you can always go for the lamb cutlets from the local butcher, the stuffed aubergines or the il risotto Sardo.
Little Sardegna is a super wee gem that guarantees you a lovely evening out. Marcello (not to be confused with Marcello from La Dolce Vita) will give you such a warm welcome that Little Sardegna will become a favourite restaurant that you go to time and time again.
