Bigger and brighter across Britain this summer
Foodies Festival is back for 2013 and it just keeps on growing! From its beginnings back in Edinburgh in 2007, it has become the country’s largest food and drink celebration, having welcomed over 600,000 eager food lovers to its inspiring long weekends. This year, dates are set for Brighton, Tatton Park, Hampton Court Palace, Clapham Common, Bristol, Edinburgh and Oxford – and for the first time, a new event – FEAST at Battersea Park – will be launched.
New in 2013
2013 sees exciting new elements added to the Foodies Festival to make it a better day out than ever. The Dining and VIP area will see local chefs serve their signature dishes to hungry visitors. The Hampton Court Palace and Clapham Common festivals will both feature Ed Baines (Randall and Aubin), Jamie Oliver’s Barbecoa, and Veeraswamy’s Masala Zone, presenting taster meals from their pop-up restaurants. A Cake and Bake Theatre will be an interactive experience involving master cake-makers like Lindy Smith and contestants from the latest series of the Great British Bake-Off showing-off their sugary skills. The Chocolate Theatre will showcase products from Divine Chocolate and Sciolti Chocolates, as well the talents of local patissières. The Wine Village is also making its first appearance in 2013 to bring together producers to offer tastings of French, German and British wine, including our very own Chapel Down. The final addition is the Homeware Village, which will present the latest in kitchen kit to drive every passionate home chef crazy!
Favourite fixtures will be returning too, including the bar area, which will have a countryside hay bale make-over, and a focus on British artisanal ciders and ales. An open top bus/bar will also be making an appearance. The Chef’s Theatre will be hosted by the brilliant 2012 Masterchef champion, Shelina Permalloo in Hampton Court and Clapham Common. Local chefs and TV personalities will be taking to the stage to wow you with their masterclasses, including, Steve Drake (Drakes Restaurant*) Vivek Singh (Cinnamon Club) and the funny Italian himself Gennaro Contaldo, all at Hampton Court. The magnificent Clare Symth (Restaurant Gordon Ramsay***), Marcus McGuiness (Hibiscus**) and Jun Tanaka (Pearl) will be dropping jaws at Clapham. To go with all that food, the Drinks Theatre will have experts Ox Clarke and Melissa Cole on hand to give master classes on wine, beer and spirits. 100s of glorious drinks will be available to sample. Mixologists will also be putting some of those drinks to good effect in the Cocktail Theatre nearby. Top quality artisan products and produce will be available at the Producers’ Market, including award winning Guild of Fine Food goods, and a selection of tasty international, ready to eat food will be available on Street Food Avenue.
